Description
The Appalachian Mountain Range extends from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine. It is an older mountain range, but not as old as the Ozark Mountains. It does not have the rocky outcrops, ledges and peaks associated with younger and higher mountains, but it does have beautiful waterfalls, lush flora, and a history of settlement in the early development of America. This image depicts a portion of the mountain that passes through East Tennessee. From high overlooks, the atmospheric layering of the distant mountains takes on a cool tone that becomes lighter in color with distance from the viewer. The haze and distortion causes the mountains to seem enveloped in a light smoky haze most of the time.
It's impossible not to love this unique and magical natural place and visitors can get lost in the sights and sounds associated with the mountains. One can easily sit next to a mountain stream and be lulled to sleep by the rushing water of mountain streams. However, if modern amenities and entertainment creates a more appetizing menu, the creative mountain dwellers have turned Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge into a tourist mecca with outlet malls, food of any type and entertainment from Dolly World to Ripley's Believe it or Not.
