Description
Earlier, I offered prints of the original drawing titled "Crappie Time." Since, I decided to add color to that drawing hence the offering of this version titled: Crappie Time - 2"
Crappie is a pan fish that we just love to catch in my part of the country. The fish is called by many names: White Pearch,Specks,Sac-a-lait, Croppie, Papermouths and Slabs to name a few. When they get off the hook, they are also known by a few adjectives that I am not allowed to repeat here. Regardless, they are delicious fish and are large enough they can be filleted easily for a boneless treat.
I have a cabin about a mile from Enid Lake, the lake were the worlds largest crappie was caught, the record for which has never been topped. Enid, Sardis, and Arkabutla Lakes are all great Crappie Fishing Destinations and are within about 30 miles of each other. The Corp of Engineers keep the lakes pristine and there are plenty of camp grounds and boat launches at all of the lakes.
Crappie usually spawn in the early spring, around April and can be caught during this time in just a few inches of water. As the spawn ends, crappie move into deeper water and can still be caught using spider rigs (multiple poles) either slow trolled with jigs or minnows are pulled with crank baits. Using these methods, Crappie in the reservoirs can be caught year round.
This drawing depicts a black crappie, next to some structure about to bite a tantalizing skirted jig. Thanks for taking the time to look. This is a great piece of wall art. Check it and more than 1600 other art and photography pieces out here or at my website: http://barry-jones.artistwebsites.com
