Country Time Barn by Barry Jones
Riding through the countryside Sunday afternoon, this old rustic cypress wood barn caught my eye and I had to go back this morning after sunup while the mist and fog were still in the air and get a shot. Though small by some standards, this small barn complete with fallen limb on the roof epitomizes the type barns I and many other grew up around. The distinct double pitched roof, the sloped wings on each side and an undoored equipment entrance are all architectural features that yell "This is a Barn."
If you follow my art and photography, you know I paint and photograph a lot of rural scenes. Although I love anything visual from the oldest edifice to the newest high-tech gadget, my roots are country and I keep going back to try and preserve what I envision to be a disappearing landscape. These rustic old barns that once dotted the landscape of America from coast to coast are becoming weathered, worn and destroyed at an alarming rate. I believe it is the job of the visual artist to preserve what once was while it still is.
