Description
The White Stuff by Barry Jones
No, it is not snow, but it is Mississippi Gold. All along the Mississippi River Delta and in other rural areas of Mississippi Cotton is King. Cotton farmers prepare all year to plant this crop, the product of which has so many uses, including being the raw product in some of the clothes you are wearing as you read this. Producing a cotton crop takes plenty of man and machine power. What was once done by hands that bleed each night during picking season is now done with huge machines that bundle the cotton in fields. Gins remove the seed and the cotton is then stored in large cotton warehouses awaiting delivery to buyers, usually in the textile trade. From there it is dispersed to factories that produce their respective products and market them worldwide. It is a very large undertaking and huge business that starts with placing a small seed in the ground.
This image depicts a cotton crop that has been defoliated and is awaiting harvest. The image is available in sizes up to 60 X 40 inches. Prints are produced from original artwork and photographs of Barry Jones and are copyrighted.
